Susan Liley co-founded the Citizens' Committee for Flood Relief in De Soto, MO, in 2016 after witnessing with her granddaughter the catastrophic consequences of the city’s fourth flood in just three years. Hundreds of homes have been affected by flash from Joachim Creek, three people have died. The community group advocates on behalf of flood victims. They’ve helped get an alert system installed, have implemented green infrastructure, and have secured funds to buy out homes so that residents can safely relocate.
