Susan Liley co-founded the Citizens' Committee for Flood Relief in De Soto, MO, in 2016, after witnessing with her granddaughter the catastrophic consequences of the city’s fourth flood in just three years. Hundreds of homes have been affected by flash flooding from Joachim Creek, and three people have died. The community group advocates on behalf of flood victims. They have helped install an alert system, implemented green infrastructure, and secured funds to buy out homes so that residents can safely relocate.
